What a drying job includes
Extraction first, then the air.
The order matters more than the gear does. Almost every drying job that runs long ran long because the water was left in the carpet for the fans to deal with.
- Extraction first, always. A fan cannot dry water a wand should have taken out. We pull the free water out of the carpet and the underlay before a single air mover goes down — that is what turns a week of drying into three days.
- Air movers placed to move air across the pile, not at it. Pointed straight down a fan just ruffles the carpet; angled along the floor it lifts a sheet of moving air over the whole surface, which is what actually carries the water away.
- Readings taken and written down — a moisture meter on the carpet, the underlay and the skirting, at the start and at the end. Drying stops when the numbers say it is dry, not when the calendar says three days are up.
- A 3-day minimum, because that is what it takes. Two days looks dry and is not; the underlay and the subfloor are still holding water the carpet has already given up.
- An honest call on what should come out. Underlay is usually the part that gets replaced, and sometimes the carpet should go too. We tell you that before the fans go down, not after you have paid for three days of drying.
When drying is the wrong answer
Three times we will tell you not to dry it.
Drying a carpet that should have been replaced costs you the drying, then the smell, then the replacement anyway — and by then the insurance conversation is harder, not easier.
- Sewage, or water that ran across the ground to get in. That is category-three water: the carpet and underlay are replaced, not dried. We do the extraction, the disinfection and the drying of the structure — the carpet itself goes. Why, in full.
- Water that has been sitting for a week in a warm house. Clean water does not stay clean; it degrades on its own. What was a drying job on Friday can be a replacement job by the following weekend.
- Delamination. If the carpet's backing has already separated from its face, drying will not put it back. You will see it as rippling that does not lie flat again.
The honest bit: we cannot always call it from the doorway. Where the answer depends on what the underlay is holding, we say so, take the readings, and give you the call before the gear goes down — not after three days of it.

The first hour is worth more than anything we do on day three. These are the honest immediate steps, written to be useful whether or not you ring us.
- Stop the water, then get the furniture off the carpet. Timber legs and metal castors stain wet pile, and those marks are permanent. Foil or a plastic bag under each foot buys you the time.
- Lift what you can, and move air. Open windows on opposite sides of the room. A cross-breeze does more in the first hour than a fan pointed at one spot does all day.
- Do not use a household vacuum on standing water unless it is a wet-and-dry. It is a real electrical risk and it will not lift much anyway.
- Photograph it before anything is moved — even if you are not claiming. It costs nothing and it is the one thing nobody can go back for.

Usually not — most wet carpet dries in place, with the underlay underneath it the part that gets replaced. Lifting is a decision, not a default. It depends on where the water came from, how long it sat, and what the underlay is doing. We take readings first and tell you which it is before anything comes up.
From $105 — one air mover over the 3-day minimum — when drying is added to a clean we are already doing. There is no call-out and no setup fee in that case, because the van is already at your door. One per wet room is the usual starting point, and most domestic jobs run one to three. More fans dry faster but they are not free, so we place what the space actually needs rather than filling the room. The second fan is half price ($17.50 a day against $35) and every one after it is $15 a day, which is there so adding the right amount of air is not a decision about money.
For a small, fresh, clean-water spill on a warm day — genuinely, yes, and we would rather tell you that than sell you three days of gear. Open the windows on opposite sides, get air moving across the floor, and lift the furniture off the pile. Where it stops working is volume and depth: a household fan moves a fraction of the air a commercial air mover does, and neither it nor a domestic dehumidifier reaches water that is already in the underlay. If it still smells or feels cool underfoot after 48 hours, the water is below the surface and household gear will not get it.
Because two days is the length of time wet carpet takes to look dry while the underlay is still wet. That is the failure this minimum exists to prevent — gear picked up on day two, the smell back on day five, and the job paid for twice. From day 4 the daily rate drops 10%, so a longer hire costs less per day rather than more.
No. We set up, and you carry on. The air movers run on ordinary household power and they are noisy rather than dangerous — most people shut the door on the room. When you are done you can drop the gear back to us in Henderson, or we will collect it for $90. That is a genuine second trip, and it is optional.
Yes — a rental has a legal standard attached to it that an owner-occupied house does not.
