What to do, step by step.
Not opinions and not myth-busting — these are the ones you read when something has already happened and you need to know what to do next. Written by the person who turns up to fix it.

What should I ask a carpet cleaner before booking?
Ask what pressure they run on carpet, where their quoted temperature is measured, how much hose they run from the van, whether they pre-spray and how long it dwells, and how many dry passes they finish with. Those five answers tell you more than any amount of marketing.

What should I do when my carpet floods?
Switch the power off to any wet area at the board before you step on it, stop the water at its source, then lift furniture off the carpet. Do not run a household vacuum over standing water. If the water is sewage or came off the ground, stay out of it entirely.

Can flooded carpet be saved?
Often, if it is clean water and we extract within the first day or so. Contaminated water — sewage or flood water off the ground — is a replacement job regardless of how good the carpet is. The underlay is usually replaced either way; it holds water the carpet above it does not.

How do you know flooded carpet is actually dry?
With a moisture meter, not by feel. Carpet pile dries first and reads dry to the hand while the underlay and subfloor beneath it are still wet. Structural drying usually takes 3–5 days, and it is finished when the readings match dry material nearby — not when the surface feels dry.
