As late as the 1960s Glenfield was still mostly rural — strawberry fields, small mixed farms and pasture. Then the motorway was extended to Wairau Road in the late 1960s and most of the farmland was subdivided before the decade was out. Glenfield Mall opened on 9 December 1971, the library followed in 1975, and the suburb we clean in today is essentially that twenty-year build.
