What we actually see in West Auckland

It rains more out here — and that is not a figure of speech

The Waitākere Ranges take about 2,000 mm of rain a year. Central Auckland takes roughly 1,268 mm. Westerly air hits the hills and drops its water on the way over, which is why the west is greener — and why the air in a west Auckland house sits heavier for most of the year. It is the single biggest reason a carpet out here takes longer to dry than the same carpet in Remuera. We plan for it: more extraction passes, moisture pulled back to the van rather than left in the underlay, and an honest dry time before we start instead of an excuse afterwards.

The clay is here for the same reason the vineyards are

From the 1890s, Croatian families came out west and planted vines in the clay soils of Henderson, Kumeū and Huapai — by the 1930s there were more than sixty vineyards, and names like Babich, Soljan, Selak and Nobilo all started here. Soljan planted on Lincoln Road in 1927; we work out of Lincoln Road today. That clay is still under every lawn and driveway west of the motorway, and it does not behave like sand. Sand sits on top of the pile. Clay works into the base of the fibre and sets there, which is why a hire machine lifts the colour off the surface and the carpet looks grey again a fortnight later.

Out on the coast it is salt, not sand

Piha, Karekare and Bethells are an occasional run for us rather than a daily one — but coastal homes out there have a genuinely harder job on their hands. Sand is just sand. Salt is the problem. It comes in on the air as much as on your feet, it holds moisture, and it keeps drawing it back long after the beach towels are put away. If your place is out on the coast, tell us when you book — it changes how we treat it.

A job out here, in full

New owners in Henderson had just been handed the keys. Pet stains, a smell you noticed at the front door, and mud worked deep into the pile. They did not want to walk on it in bare feet — and they were not asking us to clean it, they were asking whether it was worth cleaning or whether they should budget for new carpet. We deep cleaned it: treated the pet areas at the source rather than covering the smell, and worked the mud out of the pile rather than off the top. The carpet stayed. Every mark that would lift, lifted, and the smell is gone rather than masked. We told them upfront that a deep clean holds more moisture than a standard one — four hours with good airflow, closer to a day if it is cold and shut up. They understood why, and they were rapt with it.

Very courteous and friendly service. Bency really wanted to please us and did a perfect clean then offered to do a large mat as well, which was not in his quoted price. We were delighted and of course insisted on paying him for the extra work. Overall his price was most reasonable anyway. FANTASTIC JOB! he was professional, fast and polite. Our dog had brought concrete tar into our home and there is no way to get it out! if it's on your clothes you need to throw them away so we just wanted it to look nicer. BUT he removed it all along with old pet pee stains, coffee stains and green stuff from our deck over the winter that made its way inside. I'll be hiring them again 10/10. thank you!
